FAQ
What is CBT?
CBT, or Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, is a talk-based therapy that provides a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space to explore the connections between your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. With my approach, you will gain insights into your triggers, understand their origins, and learn effective strategies to manage them.
There is no fixed limit on the number of sessions. Depending on the chronicity and complexity of your difficulties, therapy may range from 4 to 20 sessions, which will be discussed during your first meeting. If a longer course of therapy is anticipated, we can consider blocks of sessions to help reduce costs.
It is generally advised to start with weekly or fortnightly sessions, especially at the beginning of therapy, as this frequency helps establish a strong rapport and allows the therapist to develop a comprehensive treatment plan. As you progress, you may find that extending the interval between sessions—such as moving to every three weeks or even every four to six weeks for maintenance—is more appropriate for your needs.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is often the preferred option for those seeking an active, evidence-based approach to mental wellbeing.
CBT is a structured, goal-oriented therapy that emphasises collaboration and measurable progress. It involves working with your therapist to identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviours, with practical assignments between sessions—such as journaling, tracking your moods and behaviours, engaging in behavioural experiments, and using worksheets and workbooks. This hands-on approach helps you quickly identify patterns and drive real, lasting change.
In contrast, counselling offers a supportive environment focused on sharing and processing your experiences, which can be valuable, but it generally lacks the structured framework and active skill-building that make CBT so effective. If you’re looking for a proactive, results-driven strategy to improve your mental health, CBT is a highly appealing choice.
Sessions are a collaborative effort where you share key parts of your story, enabling me to understand life from your perspective. The more openly and honestly you express your thoughts and feelings, the better I can appreciate how you operate. Regular reflections on your progress will help you remain focused on your goals and reinforce the positive changes you are making. Between sessions, you will have the opportunity to put your learning into practice.
My aim is to educate you on areas that may be less familiar, help you gain fresh insights, and work with you to meet your goals. I utilise a blended mindset coaching approach that integrates both cognitive strategies and holistic techniques, ensuring that my method is uniquely tailored to you. With 25 years of experience in mental health and wellbeing, I am dedicated to helping you achieve lasting positive change.
